• How Time Flies

Can it really be two and a half weeks since my last blog post? Goodness!

We are always busy beavering away in the background, but we also attended the first get together of The Bath and West Rural Enterprise Food and Drink Business Network for breakfast on 30th January, with an excellent turn out and an even more excellent panel of entrepreneurs sharing their knowledge and experiences. It's great to be a part of such a diverse pool of talent and expertise. Later this afternoon is the official launch of the Network and I believe Thatchers Cider's photographer is going to be there, hopefully taking a picture of me, amongst others, as the winner of their award. So I'm going to wear my corporate "look" (as above) to make sure I stand out in the crowd!

The Source Food and Drink Trade Show was held at Westpoint, Exeter last week on Wednesday and Thursday and we exhibited there for the first time. We had a very productive two days and thoroughly enjoyed meeting existing customers and new; thank you to those who sought us out.

Confirmation has been received from Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink that we have a "Fresh at the Fair" stand, again a first for us so very much looking forward to that three day event, show casing all sorts of amazing businesses in the South West. That's Bank Holiday weekend 5th to 7th May 2018, make sure you pop that date in the diary.

  • The Bath & West Rural Enterprise Centre teams up with Thatchers

I was delighted on Tuesday to be informed that I was the winner of The Thatchers Award 2018 and that I would be presented with a certificate at the official opening of the Bath & West Rural Enterprise Centre on Thursday 25th January.

Well obviously that was yesterday, so along I went having practised my short speech of thanks all morning and worked myself up in to a bit of a stew about it and in the event, I wasn't invited to say a single word ! I had especially avoided the cake prior to the presentation for fear of having it stuck between my teeth or smeared round my mouth, but that was fine because I had time to make up for it later, after the whirl of interviews and photographs.

My award is to spend half a day in the company of Martin Thatcher himself, learning about his business and picking his well stocked brain for tips and advice. I haven't got a date for that yet, but boy am I looking forward to it !

  • Bath & West Rural Enterprise Centre Official Opening; 25th January

We are delighted to have been invited to the official opening of the newly refurbished Bath & West Rural Enterprise Centre tomorrow, 25th January 2018.

Here's what they say about it:

"Education, knowledge transfer and business growth is at the heart of the centre, and the facility will provide the perfect venue for farmers undertaking knowledge transfer projects, higher education graduates undertaking research projects, further education students gaining farming knowledge and skills, rural workforce gaining vocational skills to increase their employability and micro food and drink businesses looking to expand and grow.

The Society’s new Rural Enterprise Centre is part of a £550k refurbishment project, which has seen our former office building at the Bath & West Showground transform into a modern agri-tech and food innovation centre. The project was funded by our charitable reserves and a £42k grant from the South West Growth Fund."

We can't wait to see for ourselves and be a part of this fab innovation.
